JRS offers Online learning opportunities to Vulnerable Refugees in Kenya to Access University Education. These scholarships are  implemented in partnership with U.S-based Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) along with the Global Education Movement (GEM),

The JRS/SNHU degree program is a competency-based program  and it is Besides the four-year degree program, which  is online and self-paced, students are being offered with career mentorship and other linkages upon graduation, aims at improving the employability of the beneficiaries. The students are provided with laptops and modems for Internet access. 

An applicant must be a refugee with a UNHCR mandate or be available in Kakuma/Nairobi when applying

Needs to have proof of secondary school completion from Kenya or from their country of origin, and not enrolled in any degree program at the time of application

Functional Title: Interpreter (roster)

Duty Station: UNHCR Branch Office Nairobi

UNHCR Branch-Office Kenya requires the services of Interpreters who speak,
read and write fluently the languages mentioned below to be included in a pool
valid for two years which will be used to providing interpretation and
translation services to UNHCR Nairobi, Refugee Affairs Secretariat (RAS), other
UNHCR operations and partners on a need basis.

Interpreters perform a key role in many UNHCR Offices. They are essential to
UNHCR¿s work in discharging its core mandate functions, including registration,
refugee status determination, resettlement and counseling on issues relating to
sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) which are generally regarded as
sensitive. The quality of interpretation has an important impact on the quality
work in these areas. In addition, the interpreter has to ensure that they
respect the principle of confidentiality, remain impartial and will uphold the
highest standards of efficiency, competence and integrity in their work

Qualifications and experience 

· Completion of Secondary Education.

· Previous experience in Interpretation services with humanitarian
agencies. ·

Refugee applicants must hold a valid UNHCR Mandate Letter, Refugee ID Card
or Refugee Affairs Secretariat Letter of Notification. Desirable Qualifications
& Competencies.

– Good communication and computer skills

– Excellent translation and interpretation skills

The language combination that are required are:

Somali, Arabic, MaiMai to English

vSomali to English

vArabic to English

vOromo, Amharic to English or French

vTigrinya / Tigre, Amharic to English or French

vKinyamulenge, Kirundi, Lingala, French to
English

vLingala, Bembe to English

vDinka to English

vNuer to English

vLuganda to English

vMaadi to English
